Standard

Quiet Zone“What’s the matter?” she mumbled, his tossing and turning waking her up for the fifth time.

“It’s too damn quiet here!” he said through gritted teeth.

She sighed. “We chose this inn ’cause of it’s seclusion. The fishing. The reviews.” She added: “The price.”

He stared into the darkness.

“Do you want me to sing to you?” she smiled, crooked grin he couldn’t see.

“Gah! No!”

She poked him in the ribs. Harder than he thought necessary, but…

“Can I put on the radio? Softly?” he asked.

She nodded, nodding off.

  1. NPR puts me to sleep too. that and CSPAN. Reminds me of my Mom- she grew up in the city, and when she and Dad got married they moved out to the suburbs. it took her a while to adjust to the silence. 🙂
